Sing us a song you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feeling alright
I was listening to these words very close yesterday on the radio. Yesterday was the 4 year anniversary of the death of my friend Derek. Derek loved repairing juke boxes and was in to all kinds of music. However, he absolutely hated the song Piano Man by Billy Joel. I thought it ironic that I turned the radio on yesterday and that song was on. It brought back lots of memories for me, both happy and sad.
I will never forget that 2am phone call saying that he had been murdered, and walking through the charred remains of his house doing my best to hold back the tears. People walk in and out of our lives everyday, but few leave a lasting impression.
Thank you for the memories.
He says, "Son can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet
And I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes"
Derek my friend, you are... on this cowboys mind.
(Piano Man: Billy Joel)
In memory of my dear friend Derek Orsini
