The Golden Calf

The TV was on the other evening as I was getting dressed for a New Years Eve party. It was a clip of actors and singers that had passed away in 2008. Among these was the great Charlton Heston. They were showing a scene of him playing Moses in The Ten Commandments. Moses was coming down from the mountain with the Ten Commandment when he noticed that the people had made an idol to worship, a golden calf.

I saw a commercial the other day for a commemorative plate for Barak Obama. Today I saw a commercial for a commemorative coin. I have seen roadside vendors selling t-shirts with Obama walking on water. This man has not even taken office yet. When did the U.S. become a country that idolizes its leaders? Barak Obama has become our golden calf.

Exodus 10:4
You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the the waters below.

Have we forgotten, or do we just not give a holy damn?

You'll be dancing in the darkness when their music disappears
And the jangle of your chains will be the only sound you hear
til your broken body's bleeding on an altar made of stone
And you've sacrificed your soul to please a world that's sick and wrong
And you never heard a single word I said.
Aww, make it, gal, before you wake up dead

Remembering the Commandments are... on this cowboys mind.
